Working offline

MaxTrax keeps working when you lose signal in the field, and syncs your changes when you’re back online. This page covers the signals that tell you what’s happening, so none of it is a surprise.

Installing MaxTrax

On a phone or tablet, you may see a prompt to install MaxTrax to your home screen for quicker, full-screen access. It’s optional — you can dismiss it and MaxTrax works the same either way; the prompt won’t reappear for a couple of weeks after you dismiss it. On an iPhone or iPad, there’s no install button — instead you’ll see instructions to tap the Share icon and choose Add to Home Screen.

The first time MaxTrax finishes getting ready to work offline on a device, you’ll see a one-time confirmation. After that, it just works.

Updates

When a new version of MaxTrax is ready, you’ll see an update available notice with a Reload button. Nothing changes until you select it — MaxTrax never reloads or swaps versions on its own mid-session, so you won’t lose anything you’re in the middle of. If you dismiss it, it’ll reappear the next time you open MaxTrax if the update is still waiting.

Cold start

If MaxTrax seems to hang for a few seconds right after opening, see Slow to load after being idle — it’s normal and resolves on its own.

The sync indicator

A status indicator in the header always shows where things stand:

• Offline — you have no connection. Your changes are saved on this device and will sync once you’re back online.
• Sync error — something didn’t sync cleanly; open the indicator for details.
• Syncing… — changes are actively going up to the server.
• Online — everything is caught up.

Select the indicator to open the Sync panel, which breaks this down per record type (welds, inspections, film intervals): its state, how many changes are queued, and when it last synced successfully. Each has its own Retry if it’s stuck.

Needs attention

The same panel has a Needs attention section for changes the server rejected — for example, an edit that’s no longer valid, or a record that no longer exists. Each item shows a plain-language reason; select Review to see the underlying details, or Dismiss once you’ve dealt with it. A Sync now button retries everything at once.

Conflict dialog

If a change you made offline conflicts with what happened on the server in the meantime, a dialog interrupts to make you choose — it won’t let you dismiss it without deciding. It shows your value next to the server’s, and offers Keep server always, plus Re-apply mine when your change is still a valid move from where the record stands now. You’ll only be offered Keep server when your change can no longer apply — either because the record already reached a final state (welds, inspections), or because film-interval conflicts don’t offer a re-apply option at all, whatever state the record is in.

Note

For a rejected change on a new record (nothing to compare it against), you may see this same rejection twice — once as a dialog with the raw server message, and again afterward in the Needs attention list with friendlier wording. Dismissing the dialog doesn’t clear the Needs attention entry; dismiss each separately once you’ve dealt with it.

Keeping your data safe on this device

Some browsers (notably iOS Safari) can clear a site’s local storage after roughly a week of not being opened — which would silently discard any of your changes that hadn’t synced yet. MaxTrax watches for this and tries to prevent it, rather than fix it after the fact:

• The app asks the browser to make its local storage durable, so it’s not a candidate for automatic cleanup. You may see this succeed silently; if your browser doesn’t support or grants this, the Sync panel’s Device storage section says so and offers a Make storage durable button to try again.
• If durability isn’t granted and you have unsynced changes, a banner escalates the longer they wait: an informational note under 24 hours, a stronger warning past 24 hours, and — past 72 hours — a non-dismissible banner urging you to connect and sync before the browser’s cleanup window arrives.
• The same Device storage section also warns if this device is running low on storage space, since that can stop new offline changes from saving.

This protects against most resets, not every case

If a browser fully clears a site’s storage (the iOS 7-day scenario above), the warning banners are the actual defense — connect and sync before that window closes. A dialog that detects storage having been reset can catch a partial reset, but a full wipe clears the detection record along with everything else, so nothing can retroactively warn you after a full wipe already happened.

What happens next

• None of this blocks you from continuing to work — MaxTrax keeps your changes safe locally either way.
• A conflict or rejection only needs your attention when the dialog or the Needs attention list says so; the sync indicator turning Online with nothing queued means you’re fully caught up.
