Documents

MaxTrax lets you attach supporting documents — drawings, certificates, photos, reports — to an ISO or to an individual weld, then preview, download, or remove them later. The same attach panel is used everywhere a document can be attached, so the steps are identical whichever you’re working on.

Before you start

Anyone who can open the ISO or the weld can preview, view details on, and download its documents.
To attach or remove a document you need a Weld Associate role or higher on the project. Without it, the panel shows the documents read-only with the note “You have read-only access to these documents.”
The document list is an online read — you need a connection to view, attach, or remove.

Where documents live

On an ISO — open the ISO detail and select the Documents tab. The tab lists everything attached to that ISO.
On a weld — open the weld from the ISO detail Welds tab (the weld matrix) to bring up its drawer, then use the Documents section inside the drawer. Weld documents are kept separate from ISO documents; the ISO Documents tab points you here for anything weld-specific rather than re-listing weld attachments.
On a welder or NDE technician — their detail drawer carries the same panel under Evidence, for qualification/certification supporting files.
On a test package — its detail page carries the same panel under Documents, for release evidence such as the pressure-test certificate or the MTR/heat book.

On a phone or tablet, in the field

Open an ISO on a phone or tablet with field view on (the register toggle near the page title) and a Documents row appears above the weld list, showing how many documents are attached. Tapping it opens the same Documents panel described on this page, in a slide-over sheet. The row is disabled with a “Needs a connection” note while you’re offline — like the rest of this page, documents need a connection to view, attach, or remove.

Attach a document

Open the Documents tab (ISO) or Documents section (weld drawer).
Choose a file with the Document to attach picker.
Optionally choose a Document type — the classification this file is filed under, such as an NDE report, a drawing, or an MTR. The list offers the document types set up for your organisation. Leave it on No type (optional) if none applies.
Select Attach. The button shows Attaching… while the file uploads, then the new document appears in the list, with its type shown beneath the file name as Type: (name).

About the document type

The document type is how you find and group evidence later — a databook is only as good as the classification behind it, so classify at attach time whenever you can.

It’s optional. A document with no type attaches normally and simply shows no Type line.
The list shows only active types. If a type has been retired, it no longer appears in the picker, but documents already filed under it keep showing their original classification — your historical record is never relabelled.
Document types are shared across your whole organisation, not per project.
If no document types have been set up yet, the picker is disabled and reads “No document types are set up yet, so documents attach unclassified.”

View a document

A row for an image or a PDF also shows a View button that opens it right there — an image in a zoomable lightbox (Fit, +/−), a PDF in an inline viewer on a desktop, or its own tab on a phone or tablet (better for pinch-zoom than a small embedded page). Every View re-opens the file fresh, so you’re never looking at a stale copy. A row for a file type MaxTrax can’t preview (a Word document, a spreadsheet, …) has no View button — use Download instead.

Download a document

Each row shows the document’s file name with a Download button that opens the file in a new tab. A document that predates MaxTrax’s current storage can’t be viewed or downloaded yet — it has no View button (same as any file type that can’t be previewed), its Download button is disabled, and the row is labeled “Not yet migrated to Blob”.

See where else a document is attached

Select Details on a document’s row to open its detail popover. It shows:

The file name and size, and — for a not-yet-migrated document — the same “Not yet migrated to Blob” note, with View and Download unavailable.
A project-scoped or tenant-wide catalog line under the header, so you can tell at a glance whether this file belongs to your project alone or to a shared, tenant-wide reference (a procedure or an NDE technician’s certification file, which only a Corporate Administrator can attach or remove).
Attached to N item(s) — every place this exact file is attached, each with a HERE marker on the row you opened it from.
Preview, Download, and a Remove from (that item) button that only ever detaches the one attachment you opened the popover from — the file, and its other attachments, stay intact. It’s disabled (with an explanation) when this is the file’s only attachment — remove the whole document instead — or when you don’t have permission to manage this particular attachment.

Remove a document

Select Remove on a document’s row (or Remove from (item) in its Details popover) to detach it from that ISO or weld. Removal is scoped to the place you’re removing it from: the document itself, and any other ISO or weld it’s attached to, stay intact.

How the transfer works

Document bytes never pass through the MaxTrax API. When you attach a file, MaxTrax authorizes the upload and your browser sends the file straight to secure storage over a short-lived, single-use link. After the upload, MaxTrax verifies the file’s size and content hash before the document becomes available — an integrity check that guards against a corrupted or truncated transfer. Downloads work the same way in reverse: MaxTrax hands your browser a short-lived read link it opens directly. This keeps large files off the application servers and keeps each transfer private to your session.
