Record a film interval result
This guide covers the core NDT flow: recording the outcome of a film interval once you’ve reviewed its radiograph.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- You need permission to record NDT results on the project.
- Know the ISO and weld number the radiograph covers, so you can open the right inspection.
- Film intervals appear on an inspection automatically — from the Excel import or when the inspection is created — so there’s no separate step to create one by hand.
Find the film interval
Section titled “Find the film interval”- Open the weld’s inspection the film interval belongs to (from Welds → the weld’s Inspections action, or from the project-wide Inspections list).
- Scroll to Film intervals. Each row shows the interval’s begin and end position on the strip, its rejected length, its current status, and any comments.
Record the result
Section titled “Record the result”- On the film interval’s row, open the Status field.
- Choose the result that matches what you found on the radiograph.
- Save. The status updates immediately, with a confirmation that the film interval’s status was updated.
There’s no separate “film number” or “map welds to a film” step to fill in — a film interval belongs to one inspection, and its identifying details are already set when the interval is created.
Record the radiograph’s equipment details
Section titled “Record the radiograph’s equipment details”On a radiographic inspection’s detail screen, a Radiograph log panel sits beside Film intervals. It’s the shot detail for the radiograph itself — radiation source, film, technique and exposure — separate from the per-interval results above.
- Open the same inspection detail screen as above.
- In the Radiograph log panel, select Edit. If nothing has been recorded yet, the panel shows No RT metadata captured yet with the same Edit action.
- Fill in what you know, grouped as Source & equipment, Film, Technique & exposure, and IQI, screen & process. Every field is optional — capture is free-form, and a partial record is fine.
- Select Save changes.
The panel also carries a link to the film log report, for the cross-record view of RT metadata across an inspection type or date window — see the report catalog.
Capture a defect on a film interval
Section titled “Capture a defect on a film interval”Each film interval row in the table above has its own defect detail — the same information the flat-log Defect column reads from. A row without a real defect code shows an Add defect action; a row that already has one shows a Defect: chip with its code(s) instead.
- Select Add defect (or the Defect: chip, to review or change what’s recorded) on the film interval’s row.
- Pick one or more Defect code(s) from the project’s defect-code list, and add Remarks, a Defect number, Size, Location, and Distance from reference as they apply — every field but the codes is optional.
- Select Save defect.
A row is only shown with a defect chip once it carries a real code — a row whose only stored value is the “no defect” default doesn’t show one, so the chip is a reliable at-a-glance signal.
What happens next
Section titled “What happens next”- The film interval’s status is part of the weld’s NDT record, and it’s visible to anyone reviewing that inspection.
