Welder progressive-examination lots

A lot is a batch of a welder’s qualifying welds, sampled for examination as it fills. This page covers the welder’s lots list and a single lot’s tracer detail — the progressive-examination mechanics behind welder qualification tracking.

Before you start

Anyone with project access can view a welder’s lots and a lot’s detail. Disposing a sample (passing or failing it) needs Project Associate access or higher; de-escalating a tracer needs Project Administrator access or higher.

Open a welder’s lots

Open a welder from Workforce and select Open the full Lots page → in their qualification drawer. The list shows, per lot: its number, state (Open, Filled, or Closed), the sampling policy (percentage and lot size), the weld count, how many samples have failed, and whether the lot’s tracer has reached its most severe level.

A lot fills automatically once it reaches capacity — driven by the project’s qualification-weld percentage — and moves from Open to Filled. Closing a filled lot is a separate, deliberate admin action that records a reason. Closed is terminal.

The tracer

Open a lot to see its tracer — the sampling record for that lot, shown two ways: a diagram and an equivalent step list (so the same information is available to a screen reader). Each sampled weld is one of:

  • Passed — the sample’s inspection came back accepted.
  • Failed — the sample was rejected.
  • Awaiting examination — locked for sampling, result not in yet.
  • In lot — part of the lot, not (yet) pulled for sampling.

A weld that’s locked for examination carries an “Examination locked” badge wherever it appears, including in the weld matrix.

Escalation

A failed sample pulls additional welds into examination. Enough accumulated failures raise the lot’s tracer level, and enough failures reach Level 3, at which point the whole lot is examined rather than a sample of it. Escalation is computed from the failure history — it isn’t a lot state of its own, and a Closed lot can’t take a new disposition.

Dispose a sample

Select Pass or Fail on a sample awaiting disposition (Project Associate+):

  • Pass credits the sampled welds toward the welder’s qualification.
  • Fail records the rejection and pulls the next tracer welds into examination per the escalation rule above.

De-escalate a tracer

If a lot’s tracer needs to be released — for example, after a corrected process issue — a Project Administrator can select De-escalate tracer, enter a reason (5–500 characters), and confirm. This releases every currently locked tracer weld in that lot; the tracer’s history stays visible afterward, so de-escalating never erases the record of what was escalated and why.
