Field register workflow

The Field register is the same ISO detail screen as the desk weld matrix — same route, same data — recomposed for a phone or tablet in the field: gloves, sunlight, one hand. Switching between Desk and Field is a toggle on the same screen, remembered per person, not something that flips automatically by screen size.

Before you start

Nothing extra to set up — open any ISO and switch to the Field register from the toggle on the page. Actions still follow your role: Complete weld needs Weld Associate access or higher, Record result needs inspection-recording access.

Reading a card

Each weld is one card: a colored status stripe down the left edge, the weld number large and in monospace, its type and ISO on one line, a status badge, an in-repair badge when it applies, and the same inspection chips the desk matrix uses. A weld MaxTrax has flagged with a data-quality issue carries a ⚠ marker with an accessible label naming the problem — never color alone.

Cards are listed outstanding-work-first by default: rejected welds, then welds awaiting your action, then everything else, tie-broken by weld number. There’s no swipe-between-welds gesture — it’s one scrollable list. Voided welds don’t appear in the list at all.

Acting on a card

Each card carries exactly one primary action, chosen for you:

  • Complete weld — for a synced weld that hasn’t been welded yet. Opens a short step-by-step wizard (weld date, then welders, then a review screen) instead of one long form.

  • Record result — for a weld with an inspection awaiting disposition. Opens a full-screen sheet with large, frequency-ordered result buttons (Passed, Reworked, Pending, Failed, Negated — only the results legal for that inspection’s current state are shown). Each button carries the result name plus a colored status chip in the same color the rest of MaxTrax uses for that state; a screen reader reads the name once, not twice. Choosing Failed asks you to confirm explicitly, naming the consequence: recording Failed rejects the weld and a repair will be required. The sheet also carries the same optional Cited code edition field as the desk dialog — search and pick the code edition (and, optionally, a clause/table) the disposition was made under, or leave it blank; see Citing the code edition you inspected under for what the picker does and what an unregistered edition looks like. If you already confirmed Failed and the citation is then rejected, you stay on the same confirm screen with an inline error — you don’t lose your place and have to pick Failed again.

    When this device has no signal the button reads Record result / Needs a connection — the caveat is printed on the button itself, so you can see it before you tap and without hovering (there’s nothing to hover on a phone).

A card with neither action available is a placeholder tap-through today — full per-weld field detail is planned.

Staying oriented while offline

Every card shows its own sync state (queued / failed / conflict / confirmed), and the bottom action bar carries an aggregate sync indicator so you always know whether this device is caught up. See Working offline for what each state means.
