Welder qualifications settings
This guide covers the admin settings that control welder qualification tracking. To see a welder’s qualification status itself — qualified or not, their qualified process/procedure pairs, and continuity — open Manage welder qualifications (Workforce) and select a welder. This page covers the settings behind that tracking and the concepts underneath it.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- You need a Corporate Administrator role or higher.
Global setting
Section titled “Global setting”In Global settings, Wall thickness qualification controls how MaxTrax derives a welder-and-process qualification from completed weld data — per welder, or per process.
Project settings
Section titled “Project settings”In a project’s Project settings, three toggles apply here:
- Exclude qualification welds from lots — keeps welds used to qualify a welder out of the lot accounting described below.
- Qualify NDE technicians — switches NDE-technician certification-expiry enforcement from warn-and-audit (the default) to blocking: with it on, an inspection record by a technician whose certificate has expired is refused rather than accepted with a warning. See Testing types & checks for the full enforcement behavior.
- Activate new welders for this project — is present in settings but isn’t wired to an effect yet in this release; new welder-project links activate regardless of this toggle. Don’t rely on it to gate activation today.
How qualification tracking works
Section titled “How qualification tracking works”- Welds are grouped into lots per welder — see Welder progressive-examination lots for the lot and tracer detail. A lot fills automatically once it reaches capacity (driven by the project’s qualification-weld percentage) and moves from open to filled; closing a lot for other reasons is a deliberate admin action with a recorded reason.
- Each welder has a qualification-weld counter on a project — every weld flagged as a qualifier counts down. Once it reaches zero, the welder is considered qualified on that project. Flagging a weld as a qualifier is a separate action from completing it (see Complete a weld & test-package sign-off) and doesn’t have a button in the app yet.
